Seattle City Council Approves Measure Affecting Home Owners

SEATTLE -- City council today approved a land use ordinance to allow Detached Accessory Dwelling Units ( D.A.D.U. a.k.a. "BACKYARD COTTAGES") to be built. What this means to homeowners is an increase in their assessable property value.

John Morefield, of Seattle's renowned Architecture 5¢, is a proponent of this newly approved measure.

"The city council has designed the land use ordinance full of checks and balances to ensure a high level of design and environmentally sound quality of life. Homeowners are advised to enlist a professional to aide them in all aspects of the project from planing and zoning, permitting and design all the way through construction. Seattle backyard cottages with Architecture 5¢ will be here to answer all of your questions. From How to start, to if your lot qualifies, we have plans for financing and Architects and contractors eager to begin working with you. Permits will begin to be filled mid December and you could be one of the first in your neighborhood to change the way people live in the greater Seattle area."
